5 minute drama
My final 5 minute drama
Filming log
Due to terrible weather conditions I has to postpone the day I had originally planned to filmed. Luckily enough we had some sunshine and my actors were willing to film even though they had several other commitments to do. We filmed at college as it was set in a school and school woods. The filming took a day to do and went really well as i had two cameras a made up dolly (chair on wheels) and tripod to film with.

Here is my mood board
I decided to create a mood board that had images of upsetting and happy things to make it controversial. I found these images online and felt they best suited my brief of what I wanted the sequence to look like.

The treatment
Blurb )
A short one minute horror sequence
An artist hides a secret behind his portraits.
Character Biographies )
Main character - The artist
The artist is called heather. She is 40 years old and paints portraits on a regular basis. She's extremely talented and graduated from arts ed school. She is very quiet and lonely and has always felt distant from her family and friends when she was younger. She is very independent and likes to be on her own. She's argumentative and has a strong opinion on almost anything and that is why she was troubled in her early years at primary school. Her career in art has led her to the beautiful town in Henley On Thames. She earns well and lives in a mansion with numerous bed rooms, living rooms and toilets but she lives by herself.
Client - Oscar
Oscar is one of Heathers art clients. He lives in henley also but he lives with his family. He is an aspiring artist and heard about Heathers success and arranged to meet her for some advice from Heathers impressive background. Oscar is 18 and is hoping to go to the same arts ed school heather went to in the following september.
Statement of intent)
I'm best suited to film and direct this short film, not only because it's a school project but because I can work around my time scheduling.
I plan to get everything done through the duration of 2 weeks varying on if the characters are available to shoot on these days.
On location I will be shooting lots of establishing shots as well as the main scene which takes place in her garden as Heather is painting. I will accomplish this filming but allowing myself time and space to organise everything well.
Story line)
My one minute drama will end on a cliff hanger. In a short summary my one minute drama is about a troubled artist who ends up killing her client. We see the artist painting someone lying on the floor, we don't know what she's drawing at this point but the person she is drawing is in front of her dead on the floor. I t turns out to be her client. The audience will have no idea who Oscar is and will have no idea why or even if Heather did do it?
Here are four images i have researched into within the same genre as mine.
These are two other films that fulfil the stereotype of a horror and cliff hanger ending.
Idea one-
A short film about a young child finding a professional artists paintbrush.
No one believes him because the young boy claims he found it five minutes from where he lives.. west London estate. The boy is telling the truth.
it's global on the news everywhere.
The painting in unrecognized and the artist is unknown.
Would need to film a young boy around 8-12. And lots of other family members and other people to play the character of the neighbors.
Idea Two-
A successful troubled artist is a suspect of her clients murder. It is a cliff hanger and we basically see her painting this image and have no idea what it is of, this makes it more interesting for the audience.
Idea Three (Final Idea)
A rags to riches one minute drama.
A scruffy true Londoner will play a painter. He is working in a 5 star rich hotel/ house.
He cannot believe he's there, he's casually singing along to the radio when the man who is visiting or owns the house hears his voice and wants to meet the man himself.
The camera will constantly be swapping back to each character, the painter being the lower class person.
The audience will see the comparison of both characters.
The rich important man falls for his voice and offers him a recording contract.
He has two kids and a wife. The family are chuffed and this is a hidden raw talent. He becomes famous...

Here are four images i have researched into within the same genre as mine.
127 is the most intense film I have ever watched. In my drama I want to create the same effect it has on the audience as it does in 127 hours. The audience are kept guessing throughout the film, this captivates the audiences attention directly at the film. I also feel that the camera shots used in this film are diverse and effective, I will somehow take into account some of the shot types used especially the rule of three.
Scream is a classic horror film that is in known worldwide. This film is similar to the genre as mine as there are some terrifying scenes and shots. In horror films the music gives away the ending, it's almost expected and too predictable. In my drama I want to use the same effect that this film has when the music is played. I want the audience to be on the edge of their seats as the music creates and terrifying intense mood.
These are two other films that fulfil the stereotype of a horror and cliff hanger ending.

Prop list
White T shirt: Sam who will be playing Oscar he will be wearing a plain white t shirt and maybe a black hoodie in hand. His outfit is plain and simple categorized as quite ‘indie' and simple.
Trackies: Black tracksuit to represent a young youth or in this case smart jeans as he is an intelligent aspiring artist.
Black scruffy shoes: Appropriate clothing for the job, comfortable. If any paint dropped it wouldn’t matter as much if she got them on her trainers, where it would matter more if they were expensive clean shoes.
Camera: I will be using the camera hired from the Henley College to film this sequence. I will be able to record film and sound which I will then edit later on.
Tripod: This is another utensil I’ll be using provided by the College. It will allow me to film to a professional standard.
Paint pot: for the paint to go in.
Paint brush: The item being shown in film sequence.

Scrubs Scene
Scrubs
Throughout this two minute scrubs sequence various camera techniques were used to film this particular scene, these techniques included: Different camera shots, use of non diegetic and diegetic sound, editing and transitions and various camera movements used to have an effect on the audience.
At the beginning of any sequence the first shot is usually (but not always) an establishing shot. An establishing shot is a great way to introduce the film sequence as it gives an insight to the audience for example, where the location is, what job they have? Etc. However in this first shot we see a medium shot that lasts about one second. We see the main character standing behind a door as if he’s hiding from someone. Instantly the audience can tell what his occupation is just because this shot in the corridor of a hospital.
The shot then cuts to an over shoulder shot of the main character talking to some very strange looking men in an elevator. The shot then changes to another over shoulder shot, but of the men’s point of view, giving the audience a chance to see the main character up close. These two shots continue to change as a shot reverse shot. This happens about eight to nine times. The men then start to sing; this is all diegetic sound.
The camera then tilts to a man about to step into the elevator. The shot quickly cuts again to three main characters sat on a chair each. This was done purposely as people will find it rather funny as all three different workers are complaining about their job, but also the colour scheme will have an impact on this shot as three different colours are used. The man on the left is in Green. The woman in the middle is wearing purple and finally the man (main character) on the right is seen wearing dark blue. Even though many people don’t pay as much attention to the little details like this it is surprising how much of an effect it does have on the audience.
The cut ends and a ‘wipe out’ transition is used to start of the next shot. At this point the camera movement is moving slightly lasting a matter of seconds. Throughout the whole of this small scene non diegetic music is used to build up excitement and for dramatic effect.
Next shot is a medium close up of the doctor talking to another doctor, there are once again various shot reverse shots being used, as well as over shoulder shots. This is used to let the audience feel involved in this scene and to see the situation in each of the characters perspectives.
The camera moves again and pans round to a medium close up of the nurse talking to another doctor. There is a pattern progressing as the use of shot reverse shots and over shoulder shots are being used so frequently, however they are working effectively as they do not bore the audience because the shots aren’t lasting that long.
The next and final shot is of the main character ( in blue) walking fiercely down the corridor. This shot is a tracking shot, the camera is looking slightly up towards him making the main character look fierce unstoppable and brave. This gradually builds up tension especially a slow motion is used and the non diegetic sound is playing.
The shots keep constantly cutting to the men singing round the desk, this is used again, to create tension. Finally the main character opens the curtain and the music stops this effect is called juxtaposition. The music completely stops in order to bring the character and audience back to reality and normality.
